About Us

Welcome to the Pikeville Free Will Baptist web site. I hope you find the content useful and enjoyable. We are very proud of the work that went into this website and pray it will be a blessing to you.

PFWB is a fundamental, Bible believing Free Will Baptist Church with the belief that no matter the denomination you may be affiliated with, no matter the race creed or color of your skin, if you know Jesus Christ you are our brother or sister in Him and are always welcome in His church here on Chloe Road.

Our church has a long and rich history. Pikeville Free Will Baptist Church was organized on March 26, 1939 at the home of Brother James Owens by the Reverends A.L. Jackson, Isaac Stratton and Daniel Hughes. Brother A.L. Jackson was elected pastor and Brother Gabe Ratliff was elected clerk. The church had twelve members. These wonderful Christian people had a heart to work for the Lord, but they had no building in which to have services. The first four services were held at the Pike County Home of Brother Owens. They continued to hold services there until the church on Cline Street was built.

The first service was held in the new Cline Street church on July 28, 1940. On April 4, 1962, Brother Don Lee became pastor. On July 1, 1970, Brother Don entered into full time pastoral ministry. The church continued to grow until it became evident that the church needed a larger building. Brother Perry Taylor and his business partner, Jack Roberts purchased and donated the property to the church. Brother Taylor also made a generous donation to the building fund and with the financial support and manual labor from the members of the church, the new building was dedicated to God in August 1976.

During the next few years, the church experienced a period of steady growth in church membership. God sent other ministers to assist Brother Don in ministering to the needs of the growing congregation. Five of those men are now pastoring other churches. In December 2001, I was elected to serve as the church’s first assistant pastor. On October 11, 2006 I was elected pastor and Brother Don was given the permanent title of Pastor Emeritus.

In the fall of 2008 we began a new renovation project which was completed in late winter 2009. The sanctuary was completely renovated with nearly every surface refinished. The outside was also upgraded with stone masonry and landscape lighting.

Some ministries of our church include; Women Active for Christ, Nursing Home Ministry, Youth and Adult Drama Teams, Children’s Church, Relay for Life, Home and International Missions Partnerships, Youth and Adult Choirs, Master’s Men, Vacation Bible School, Video DVD’s for home-bound worshipers, Community and Flood Relief Ministries, Back to School Celebrations, Christ Centered Sporting Events, Gospel Concerts with national artists as well as local talent and numerous small and large group bible studies.

From 1939 until today Pikeville Free Will Baptist Church has upheld the fundamental Christian beliefs that the Bible is true and infallible, Christ is risen and alive and that God's Grace is sufficient for all of our needs. To God be the glory for all that has been accomplishes and all Christ is doing and will do through this church.

Come and join us at Pikeville Free Will Baptist...A Church with no walls!
